Do you sometimes find yourself dreaming about a time when life was simpler, fun, and innocent? Now, with an overabundance of responsibility and after hard work to achieve your dreams and goals, you realize you’ve lost touch with your closest friends that you thought were going to walk that parallel line with you. Before you know it, life has taken control; yet you find yourself longing to experience the same fun with the same people that you once did. If anything at all, curiosity sets in and you just can’t shake the feeling of wanting to know what happened to that person you knew so well. There’s a definite jump in technology and informational resources available, yet it’s hard to take that first step. It can all be quite confusing, so where do you start?

Conducting an alumni search of past classmates or friends, you need to put on your investigative cap and consider your resources. First you must use your current memory extensively. In other words, start where you last remember corresponding with your past classmates. Digging through your memories is a great place to start when looking for a lost friend. If you can only remember what part of town or even their old address would be help you track them down. Gathering all information and all contacts that can be useful, and telephone numbers or addresses that you might have can be of great assistance. Once your list is done, it’s time to get down and dirty!

Start with the people you used to know together, you’d be surprised how much the old lady next door might remember about you and your old friend. Even better, if you remember where they live and they haven’t moved, is your old friends’ parents. If that leads to a dead-end, then obviously you must dig deeper but where? Public records are one way to get the information you need, particularly when locating old friends. However, the process is extremely involved and could take anywhere from several months to a year to complete. Suddenly, that excitement of anticipation turns into despair, regardless of how persistent you’re known to be in getting the results you want.

The good news is there are businesses on the internet specializing in people searches, often producing results in just a short period of time. These people searches are not free, but a small fee may well be worth it if you really are anxious to reconnect with an old friend or classmate. Some websites even offer a refund if no information is found.

Internet search engines can save you the expense of an investigative search by looking for online email accounts under the names of your old classmates and friends. You should try these first after all you might get lucky. Of course, the various and specific alumni directories, reverse phone look up, or address alone can find and avail to you the right information.

Just remember to keep your searches short and simple for the best results and try not to get overwhelmed by the process of your alumni directory searches. Your efforts will be well worth it when you finally find old classmate.
