College Students: Is a Truck Rental the Best Choice?
For college students moving away from home for the first time, the process can get very overwhelming. Often these students are faced with questions such as, “What do I do with all of my belongings?” “How do I get my things to my new school?” or “Which companies can I trust with all of my belongings?”. Some students are privileged to have family there to aid them. However, those who don’t shouldn’t feel overwhelmed. Here are a few good ideas that can keep you on the right track.
First of all, you’ll need to decide what the best way for you to move is. There are several options to choose from and deciding on the best will require you to think about a number of different factors. For example, if you are moving to a school that is in the same town you currently live in, or very close, you might consider a moving van rental. These are usually best suited for folks who don’t have a long way to move. You will be responsible for packaging all of your belongings yourself, loading the truck, driving it to your destination and unloading it. Of course if you do need aid with any of these functions you can also elect to hire additional movers or even a driver for the truck.
Another option is a truck rental. This is for students who don’t have a lot of stuff. If you’re moving into a dorm that gives you a desk and bed it’s for sure that all you’ll have is some clothing, toiletries and keepsakes from home. In this instance, simply renting a truck might be both easier for you to handle and more economical.
For people who are moving across state lines and are taking quite a bit with them, self pack moving companies are a great option. The idea is an easy one. First, the company will bring a pod to your home. This will be secured and covered to be safe from the elements. You’ll then simply put your belongings into the pod. When you’re done, the moving company will pick it up and deliver it to your new home. You’ll then be responsible for unloading it and letting the moving company know when you’re done with their pod and they can pick it up.
Any of these options are great options. It simply depends on how far you’re moving, how much stuff you’re taking with you and the budget that you have to use.
