Different Factors That Can Affect Career Choices You Make, And Things You Should Consider When Making A Career Decision.
There are many factors which can affect what Career ideas you may have. Some factors are beyond your control, whilst others are down to your individual wants and needs. Regardless of whether you are changing Careers or looking at New careers, there are so many separate factors to take into account it can occasionally be a tad intimidating trying to take everything into consideration. Here I am going to look into just a small selection of the things which can occasionally be a result of your own actions, and occasionally a result of things outside of your control.
One such thing is the relations you have with family and friends, either in your present career, or present location. Such ties can impact what Career ideas you could have, as perhaps strong ties may stop you from looking at Careers which would call for you to move away from your family and friends. If you are looking at New careers completely this might not be such a huge problem for you – particularly if you’re a young graduate hoping to explore the world. In some cases you could be wishing to get away from the people around you, and meet new people, make new friends, and start over! It’s extremely important that you take this seriously, as if you move away and you’re not equipped for it, it can adversely affect you. I found out from experience – I was not ready to leave home for university, but as everyone around me was going I felt pressured into it, so I went… turned out I detested it, couldn’t stand being there, and had to come back after a measly 6 weeks. So that was a large waste of cash. I’m very much a family person, so if you are too you might not want to move too far. Some people I know aren’t concerned by this – in fact a friend of mine could not wait to move away from his mother!
Another thing that might affect what Careers you think about, which you might not think of at first, but it certainly is something that ought to be thought about, is the performance of the company at the time you are applying. For obvious reasons, you don’t want to be applying to a business that looks to be struggling. Also, check the markets of whatever role you’re applying for, make sure they appear stable. It is of course unfeasible to predict how businesses will fair overtime, but by doing a little bit research beforehand you will save yourself a big headache later on. Also, by looking at how businesses are fairing, you could even get yourself some new Career ideas in up and coming areas that you might not have heard of or looked at before.
These are of course a very, very small example of the numerous factors which can affect your Career ideas. The best guidance I can give is to just ensure you think everything through thoroughly, and don’t make any rash decisions. With considerate planning you can just about guarantee you will make the best choice .
