Distance Education Degree Has Never Been This Much Fun
There’s one immensely critical thing a student must do before enrolling to an MBA program. He or she must take the Graduate Management Admissions Test or GMAT.
While there are cases of students who get around taking the GMAT, those who do are very rare. For the rest of us, the GMAT is an important component – along with work experience and past grades – every post-grad program examines before admitting a candidate. The higher one’s score, the better ones chances for admittance…particularly to the top flight schools.
That doesn’t mean a student should lie down and just submit to the admittedly torturous testing process. There are a number of online colleges that have built considerable reputations on their GMAT preparatory programs.
This provides the student with a double advantage. The first being they can hold down their jobs while preparing for the exam. This is important as work experience is another key qualifying element when it comes to going for one’s MBA. Another thing a candidate can also check for is if their place of employment will offer financial assistance for the prep course. There are a number of institutions that do.
The other reason is one can take one’s online course load around one’s work schedule. This includes if you have to do overtime or suddenly find yourself being flown off on a business trip. The key pieces one needs are a portable computer and a high speed modem, and someplace where they can work. It doesn’t matter if it’s from the kitchen table of your home or by a hotel bedside. This way you can kill two birds with one stone.
As said before, there are a number of schools that offer GMAT courses. The next thing one should consider is which school to enroll in. It’s well known that while the GMAT is standardized, everyone taking the test is not. Students are individuals, each with their strengths and weaknesses.
Next, it’s a good idea to sit down and evaluate yourself. The GMAT is broken into three different tests: Analytical Writing Assessment (testing problem solving abilities), Quantitative (math abilities) and Verbal (communications skills). If you feel you are weak in problem solving, do research for a school that is particularly strong in the area. From there, don’t be afraid to repeat the particular modules and drills you are weak in until you feel you have the procedures down pat.
This doesn’t mean one shouldn’t ignore one’s strengths with their online degree either. A great way to blow a GMAT is to walk in with an inflated sense of over-confidence. So make sure the prep course the online course offers does review everything, and then can be customized to suit your particular needs. Cover all the bases and you are one step closer to your degree programs online and hopefully a very profitable future.
