Looking back to the 1700’s, school houses only had one room with multiple age groups all learning the same material and marked the early stages of calculators as abacuses were used for mathematics. A great opportunity was presented as schools began to widely develop, opening their doors for children of all color, age, social class, and gender. Students were put into age groups and created a class for each age group with their own age appropriate material. Skipping ahead a few centuries, computers were brought into schools for the first time. Computers became a regular subject matter within the education system, making it mandatory for students to participate in computer classes and learn typing skills as well as how to navigate through the system.

As a result of this new development Parents are now able to view their child’s progress in their classes with the online report card feature. Even Colleges have acknowledged the value to creating a mobile means of information and have implemented that into education as they are creating distant learning programs via learning management system that enable students to earn their degrees online.
Technology never rests as there is a continuous drive to find new ways of making higher education more efficient. This has resulted in new interactive courses being implemented into the curriculum with virtual instructor led webinars, advanced assessment tools to measure students’ comprehension and reaction to the material. Content developers have acknowledged the different learning methods and have implemented different styles into their course to appeal to each type of learner. The door of opportunity has been broken open with so many options to further our education initiatives with the help of the learning management system and valuable tools it provides. It has been nothing less than exciting to see how we have progressed and advanced and still knowing that this is more to come in regards to future developments within the education system.
