Learning Management System: Is Traditional Education History?
Taking a walk down memory lane show cases the advancements that have been made within the education system to improve the quality of learning, who would have ever thought that something like a learning management system could be invented to facilitate distant learning creating an easier way for students to further their education? It is nothing short of amazing to assess and measure the advancements, and yet new developments are still underway. With technology constantly striving to breakthrough new walls, it should not surprise us as a new generation of technology within the learning management system begins to develop.
Going back to the 1700’s schools were very limited in size and resources with their one room school house that housed numerous age levels within one class. Schools started rapidly developing, opening their doors for children of all ages, social groups, ethnicities, and genders. Students, for the first time, were divided up based on their age and placed in age specific classrooms with their own course material that proved to be age appropriate. Now we fast forward to the day when computers were first integrated and introduced into the schools. It wasn’t long before computers were integrated into the curriculum as a regular subject matter making it mandatory for students to participate in computer classes.
Everyone went wild when the innovative wireless internet was introduced to facilitate easier access to the world wide web. Wireless internet is popping up everywhere, college campuses, the workplace, even our favorite local cafés are becoming more populated by students and business workers as they have startied to offer free wifi.Even High School students are turning to the web to complete assignments and view their up and coming projects. This new enhancement has made the Parents lives easier as they are now able to keep track of their child’s progression and performance in their classes as online report cards have been integrated as a valuable resource to ensure students are being kept accountable. Universities are cashing in with the new online learning trend as they create distant learning programs that enable students to receive their degree online via learning management system.
Technology is moving forward continuously as it tries to seek new ways to create an even more efficient and useful means for higher education.This has resulted in new interactive courses being implemented into the curriculum with virtual instructor led webinars, advanced assessment tools to measure students’ comprehension and reaction to the material. Content developers have acknowledged the different learning methods and have implemented different styles into their course to appeal to each type of learner. Opportunity has been presented to us with this valuable means of higher education as the learning management system provides an efficient way to distribute necessary curriculum to a mass audience. To see how far we have come is truly something to be proud of and excited about as we continue to look towards the future to its promising progressions that are sure to come.
