All parents will understand the need to assist their children with their schoolwork and enable them to gain the best grades possible. The desire to help them is heightened even further when they are undertaking revision for exams for important subjects. As a result many parents will try to help by providing gcse maths tuition. But is this approach really the right move?
Evolving curriculum
There is a good likelihood that the curriculum being taught at schools has changed in the time that most parents last attended. This will of course mean that they are unable to provide adequate teaching on certain topics that they haven’t learnt. Even if they do know all of the curriculum, it could be that the way of teaching it or the methods used have changed.

Professional teachers and lecturers are shown specific techniques to teach their pupils in order to maximise learning. If you do not have these techniques then communicating ideas and methods to your child can be difficult, even if you know the subject well. Such an instance could lead to the child questioning their own ability to learn, not realising that it is fact their teacher that is not providing the right tuition.
Family politics
Life experience tells us the family member don’t always work well together and that arguments can often occur. Most of us will know someone who has encountered problems when trying to teach a family member to learn to drive. This kind of friction can often happen when parents attempt to provide their child with GCSE Maths tuition. A lack of patience on the parents side or even a personality clash can mean that the tuition given can actually be harmful rather than helpful.
Alternative options
It is likely that you have worked out that we don’t believe that it is a good idea to provide your child with GCSE Maths tuition; unless you have the proper qualifications. However, there are other options available that will provide them with the support. The first option is to hire a lecturer, teacher or graduate student, who does tutoring on the side as a way of earning extra money. The second option, which is actually cheaper and more convenient, is that of online GCSE Maths tuition.
