MFT CEUs – Not the Same Old From Years Past

You labored for several years in order to receive your B.A. and your M.A. You then tackled the task of clocking all of your supervised hours of clinical treatment. Then came your MFT exam, of which you studied for hours preparing yourself. Finally, you reached the status of a LMFT. You have arrived! No more training, right? Not quite. Going forward you have the task of completing the continuing education required during each renewal period. Does this mean attending a university again? Does this mean hours of classroom attendance at some campus? In short, no.

Methods for earning continuing education continues to grow and adapt. Online options have been a big part of recent growth. The internet has made attaining CE units simple, quick and convenient. Currently there is still a mix in most states of courses allowed to be taken online and courses that need to be attended in person. As the internet continues to develop, so do the opportunities to use this venue to complete many tasks.

The current trend is to travel less and get more done online. This is seen with the various ads for “GoToMeeting”, or “GoToMyPC”, etc. The use of one’s time and monetary resources are being scrutinized. Online tools are providing solutions. The days of having to travel to various locations each year in order to attend seminars, workshops and conferences are slowly fading. As stated already, this need hasn’t disappeared completely, just drastically reduced.

CEUs online is a great option, the trick now lies in finding the appropriate provider. There are several areas that should be looked at that cause discrepancies from one provider to the next. Areas such as their approvals, pricing, format (website structure), and customer service. Take note of the following questions:

Is the provider approved in my state for MFTs?

Is the process of moving around in their website simple and easy to follow?
What is their pricing structure? Does it make sense? Is it reasonable?
What are the options if a problem arises? How can I get my questions answered?

All of these questions would be good to ask of each provider you are researching. Write the answers down for each provider on a separate sheet of paper. Then compare your notes to determine which one is right for you. The time invested upfront will benefit you later. Providers are not all equal and therefore should be compared and contrasted in making the appropriate decision. This analysis will benefit you for years to come. Your license renewal will come up over and over again. You will need a source for earning your CE beyond today.
