On Line College Degree Can Be Paid For By Your Employer!

It’s more possible these days to juggle full-time work with college studies, thanks to online programs that are said to be increasingly gaining acceptance among employers. And employees who work for companies that offer tuition assistance might consider applying the benefit toward online college pursuits.

Online degree programs allow students to pretty much set their own schedules, participating in studies between family and work responsibilities and from wherever they have a computer with an Internet connection. Participating in distance college studies can reportedly also enhance technology skills that are growing more important in this information age.

Online college enrollment has reportedly been rising substantially, the number and variety of degree programs are growing fast, and employers these days more greatly appreciate online degrees. The results of a Society for Human Resources Management study released in 2009 cited that employers view online degrees from accredited institutions more favorably than they did five years prior. And the majority of these employers reported that they extend the same tuition reimbursement for online college classes as they do classes at bricks and mortar institutions.

The opportunity for training has been becoming one of the most attractive benefits a job can offer its employees, according to information cited in a “32 Trends Affecting Distance Learning” report. Most experts agree that earning an online degree help boost an employee’s marketability and future earnings. But working toward an online degree might also show an employer that a worker is motivated and driven, perhaps enhancing job security and setting a pathway toward a promotion.

The 2009 Human Resources study nevertheless reported that few employees with access to tuition reimbursement actually utilize it. More recently, the Wall Street Journal published an article entitled, “Some Job Benefits You May Never Get Back”. The article, published in April, reported that company cutbacks in a tough economy include eliminating tuition assistance across the board and particularly at the graduate level.

Some companies, on the other hand, are apparently sending employees back to school in an effort to keep them current. Google is one of several companies paying $95,000 so that employees with master’s degrees can participate in a Georgia executive doctorate in business program that can help students solve complex business problems, according to an April report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Adults might also consider continuing their education as a means of staying competitive in a tight job market. The government has reportedly been enhancing incentives intended to help men and women to continue their education, and displaced workers are reportedly investing the time in college online and otherwise. Some students are said to be participating in college programs that can help fill a need, such as in health care. And the Obama administration, along with businesses and state governments, are reportedly working to enhance programs and incentives in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subject areas, where industries are said to have a demand for qualified employees.

Earning your colleges online or otherwise might also lead to a promotion. An April article in the Journal & Courier newspaper in Lafayette, Indiana told the story of an area factory worker who enrolled in online degrees and landed a new job with tuition reimbursement benefits. The woman expects to continue her studies toward her degree and apply the benefit to her college endeavors, the Journal & Courier reported.
