Online Distance Learning Programs And More Available Everywhere Via Cloud Computing
No one denies that technology has completely revolutionized education over the last few decades. It wasn’t too long ago when a computer meant this gigantic structure housed in a sterile glass room and ran on punch cards. At the same time, most “distance education” was done via the U.S. Mail, not the Internet.
As one can imagine, the Internet and personal computer totally revolutionized education in general and at the college and university level in particular. People can now plan their education around the demands of their jobs, in the comfort of their homes, and with some significant reductions in cost. Distance learning has been transformed into a completely new industry called virtual or online college.
Look at it this way, online education is a lot more than no longer having to go to a brick and mortar classroom. Thanks to the Internet, students don’t have to go to a library to do research. They don’t have to TYPE their term papers – double spaced – on paper. Further, they don’t have to go to their professor’s office to drop off said term paper; instead they can do it by email. Heck, they can take their final exam from home in some cases.
Still, there’s another innovation about to have an even further impact on online education and that‘s cloud computing. There are those who haven’t heard of this new development, however.
Basically, cloud computing means that one uses programs, resources and systems on-demand via the Internet. These tools remain in the public domain, and users are not tied down by a physical computer mainframe. Those unaccustomed to this technology need not fear the term “cloud” as it is a synonym for the Internet.
As more companies understand the value of such programs easily accessed by the public, advanced experience using and working with something like Google Documents can also enhance one’s resume and qualifications. If an applicant has prior knowledge of similar systems, employers will not have to spend as much time training a new hire.
There’s one other thing about the cloud, and that is one can post and/or download even more freely than with previous tech. Many people in the military, who can’t waste time setting up a desktop in the likes of Pakistan, can quickly do what they have to with the cloud and good Wi-Fi. The experts have even gone so far as boast it can be done anywhere, from the extremes of the North and South Pole to the thickest jungles in South America.
Another thing one should also consider is a number of companies are starting to adapt cloud computing. As they do so, they will see someone already familiar with the programs in a better light than someone who doesn’t know it. Those who are participating in accredited degree online programs are at the forefront of this. Taking courses online through online college degree programs means getting a degree faster and more efficiently, setting the student up for great success.
