Pharmaceutical Training For Medical Professionals
In the United States there are increasing opportunities to become a medical assistant. It is predicted that there will be a need for more medical assistants up to 2012 according to statistics from the department of labour. The reason why medical assistant careers are on the rise is because of the constant advances of the field of medicine, the ever increasing and aging population and the development and growth of practices, health care service facilities, clinics and hospitals.
The need for additional personnel is very much needed to meet the demands, most especially with the medical assistant careers that are able to handle both clinical and administrative procedures and tasks. The role of a medical assistant is to perform admin and clinical procedures which help towards the efficient running of the facility that they work at be it a hospital, doctors surgery or clinic. The duties and responsibilities of medical assistants vary depending on the location, State law and the size of the practice.
Some of the administrative and clerical tasks that a medical assistant perform are answering the telephone, schedules appointments, files and updates the medical records and information of patients, files and processes insurance forms, book keeping, handles communications, billing and arranging hospital admissions and laboratory services.
The clinical roles can be limited depending on what state the worker is in. The main duties of a medical assistant in a clinical situation include taking the medical histories of patients, helping them to understand what will happen during an examination or procedure and helping them to get ready for this. Other duties of medical assistants include collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, doing basic laboratory test, disposing contaminated medical supplies and sterilizing medical instruments.
Medical assistants can also give details on the medications of a patient and special diets. It is also possible that a medical assistant will telephone prescriptions to the pharmacy and authorize medication refills when authorised by the physician. Pharmaceutical training is necessary before they can do this however.
