For example during the listening module, which last for 40 minutes, you will be made to listen to 30 minutes of recording. You will then be tested based on what you heard during this period. The writing module asks questions which clear guidelines on how they should be answered. If you have been asked to answer a sentence in 3 words, you answer should be exactly that. Going above or below that will only be counted against you.
The IELTS also pays attention to the writing skills of an individual with focus on writing and grammer construct as obvious examples.
