The Concept Of True Love – Unconditional Love
What is love? Love is a very trendy word and often one of the most abused words in the vocabulary. All men know about love. At least they got ideas about love. Even a little child has his own idea of love. Then again, only some know the real meaning of the word love. Some people describe love as a deep tender and passionate feeling. Others express love as a strong affinity towards another person, animal or thing.
It sounds as if, love is ambiguous and complex to describe. You can graze hundreds of dictionaries, legendary psychology books and authors yet they all fail to define the real meaning and essence of love. To know the real meaning of love, we should refer to the author of love – GOD. In all verity, God is love.
God does not just love, He is love. It is because love is His character and the demonstration of His being. All that God does is because of His love. It is not a witless and sentimental love that most people feel.
The bible teaches that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails”
With this definition of love, you will know that love is not just a feeling or a matter of great affection, desire and preference. People are misguided about love and how to stay in love. In general, people only focus on the goodness and the enchantment. For certain, it is easy to love your relatives or a friends who have been with you through thick and thin. But suppose you can’t see any goodness on him or her? What if you are not blood related and he or she is your enemy? Are you still willing to do the things mentioned in the bible?
Unconditional means absolute or not constricted by stipulations. Willingness to love and to do the things described in the bible despite who the person is and what he or she does is called unconditional love. This kind of love was first demonstrated by God to us by sending His beloved son to deliver us from eternal death and for us to be called His children. And He did this while we were all sinners and not fit of the priceless gift of eternal life. God loved us although we are faithless and disobedient. Our nature does not know how to love others truly even ourselves. But because God showed His love through His son Jesus, we now have a clear picture of love and unconditional love.
You may perhaps be wondering if it is possible for you to love unconditionally just like God because you are only human. The good thing is that God has given those who receive His son Jesus the gift of eternal life and the ability to love unconditionally. This is because of the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells on them.
Knowing God’s love brings unity to life. His unconditional can bring meaning and importance to life. Allow God to show and experience His love through believing in His son Jesus Christ and giving your life to Him. Then love will instinctively overflow and empowers you to love other people unconditionally through the Holy Spirit.
