While there is nothing wrong with either of these language, it would be just as sensible for schools to try to teach students how to speak Mandarin. Mandarin is the first language of both China and Taiwan. It is the secondary language of many other countries in Asia. Even if you do not have the time or inclination to learn how to read words, you should at least take the time to learn the basic Mandarin alphabet.

When you consider the number of people who speak Mandarin, you really can not afford not to learn Mandarin. Even if you do not know that you will ever need to use the language, there is a chance that your children will and if you have already learned to speak Mandarin, you will have an easier time convincing your children that the language is important.
