What Can We Do To Manage To Find A Route Forwards In A Period Of Economic Austerity?
The new coalition is preparing an emergency Budget to be presented to The House of Commons on 22nd June. In it, we can expect the first tranche of cuts to be announced in government. The next tranche of cuts will be announced during the Comprehensive Spending Review in the autumn.
The softening up process has started with the Prime Minister announcing, to nobody’s great surprise, that the economic state is worse than was initially thought and revelations of what state the former government left the country in are being made on a daily basis.
It must be an accepted fact that coalition isn’t going to be able to do nearly as much as it has done previously. And indeed, the new coalition does not believe that it should be doing a lot of things that it currently does anyway, since it has no wish to go on with the command and control mantra of its predecessors. The Labour government believed that it should be getting involved in almost every aspect of the lives of large numbers of people. Usually these were the poorest and most vulnerable that it could bully and pester for good press headlines.
So the economic realities are imminent and it is best to be on guard. What to do? Well, one thing is to attempt to find somewhere where the difficult times are likely to pass a little further away. Previously, in such a situation, the natural direction was to attempt to head for the public sector and find a job with either a government department or with the local council. This was seen as a sheltered opportunity, good pay and perks and a beneficial pension package. This is no longer the case as the public sector is bound to feel the force of the economic brakes being put on.
Now could be the moment to look for vacancies with an Internet Business. This will not mean any great technical skills designing websites or creating databases, but rather having adequate skills with a computer keyboard and mouse to be able to Work From Home and using the company’s systems operated over the infrastructure provided by the internet.
The benefits here are many and varied. In order to lessen costs, it is far cheaper for companies to equip its staff and permit them to Work From Home instead of spend money keeping an office with all the costs involved in that. For a person doing Online Jobs there is frequently the freedom to select their own working hours, to mak their own working conditions and environment and to actually earn a little more in net terms by not having to incur the costs needed in having to commute to work. This also knocks on into the saving of time involved by not being held up in traffic and held up on public transport and being beholden to the whims and mercies of the travelling conditions.
An Internet Business must be certain that the work that it asks staff to do as a stipulation of doing Online Jobs is going to be adequate to fill a working period. If someone needs to wait for a decision before carrying on with one task, they must be able to go on with anothersomething else in case the person making a decision is unavailable at the time or needs to seek clarification. The facility to park a query and continue must be in place because the worst thing for someone who can Work From Home is to be hanging about waiting because they finish up staring at the walls or out of the window, and killing time. This leads to dissatisfaction and loss of momentum and is no good for anybody.
The chance is open to companies to become an Internet Business and save money during the straitened times ahead, and for the people it is likely to engage. But all must be certain that the Online Jobs are real jobs so that a person doing them is certain that they are doing quality and worthwhile work.
