Due to the increasing number of students who showed poor or below average performance during their freshman year in college, more and more programs and educational enhancements are conducted so as to increase students level of knowledge. That is why the SAT, or Scholastic Aptitude Test was formulated, for the reason of measuring a student’s ability and preparing high school students for the next level of education that they must take.

SAT, or what is now known to be the SAT Reasoning Test, is a standardized examination taken by every student in the United States before they enter College. This is developed and owned by the College Board, which is a non-profit organization aiming to help future College students get ready for college. This is done through an examination to test whether a student is capable or not of going onto the College level.

The Scholastic Aptitude Test consists mainly of three (3) major sections, namely Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. The Critical Reading section is composed of 2 sub categories: two of which is a 25-minute section and the other is a 20-minute part. Critical Reading is primarily about sentence completion and reading passages. Next is the Mathematics part which is also divided into 3 subsections: two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section. Previously, students were not allowed to use calculators, now they are allowed to use a calculator to be able to save time in computing, as it is faster than doing it manually. Lastly is the Writing part, which is divided into 2 subparts: 1 multiple choice and the other is the essay writing portion. The multiple choice section comprises 70% of the Writing part, while the remaining 30% is for the essay writing. The writing section is formulated to be able to test the student’s writing skills.

There is a more valuable reason why the SAT exam is divided into these three major parts. The Critical Reading section is mainly for testing the students vocabulary. The Mathematics section is included to test and enhance the student’s logical reasoning and problem solving skills. Just as was already mentioned in the earlier part, the Writing section is included in order to test and measure the students writing ability.
